[NTLUG:Discuss] Kernel update 3.8.0-30 breaks WiFi...

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've been on the list, but I have
increased the number of linux boxes I use, so I thought it might be good to
come back.

I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 on my systems and it works great. The last kernel
update broke the wifi on one of my boxes (only a couple of weeks old) that
uses an Atheros AR9227 wireless adapter. I was thinking the kernel module
might not be loading, but it shows up in an lsmod. When I run lspci -v, the
card shows up, but does not list a kernel driver in use. I found
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1221305 with someone
else having a similar problem, so I installed the mainline kernel and it
fixed the problem.

It's been a long time since I've customized a kernel, so I was wondering if
the default mainline kernel should be okay or if I should go ahead and
recompile it. Another thought I've had is to go back to the 3.8.10-30
kernel, reconfig it and make sure the ath9k support is built in - which it
looks like it is, but just isn't working correctly. Also, for anyone that
uses Ubuntu, does the LTS version seem to have better stability?

Sorry if these questions are noobish!

Thanks,
-J
