Leroy,
I found the lists to be pretty good when I looked for a scanner a
couple of years ago. The lists were important because I wanted one of
the light weight Canon USB powered scanners and some Canon models are
well supported and some are not. I don't consider the Canon to be
good enough for 35 mm slides. I'd love to have access to a 35 mm
slide scanner for a while, so I hope you get a good one and let me use
it some time.
For FAX, there are a few options. How often are you going to send
FAXes? There are some online services that are cheap or free, if you
just need to send a few. Or, look for a FAX card with a hardware
controller. They are not common in PCI format, but I have seen a few.
Or, find a good used external modem. The USR Courier is a well made
classic. At one time, used ones were cheap and plentiful, but I'd
guess that time has passed. The newest VOIP adapters are supposed to
do FAXes.. Older adapters like the Linksys PAP2T could do faxes
supposedly, but I found them pretty unreliable,
Good luck,
Ralph
