[NTLUG:Discuss] May 17 Meeting Feedback

It was great to see a good turnout today. I apologize that I had to leave early but please consider this e-mail proof-of-life that my wife did not kill me even though I left later than I was supposed to and caused her to be a few minutes late to her work function. 

I don't know if Chris showed up today after I left but if he had while I was there I was going to take a minute to acknowledge him and thank him for his years of dedication & commitment to the organization. Just in case you missed it, Chris announced his retirement as President of NTLUG a couple of weeks ago: http://www.ntlug.org/pipermail/discuss/Week-of-Mon-20140421/034445.html That said, thank you for everything Chris. You left some big shoes to fill that will likely take the combined effort of 3-5 people to even come close. 

One of the biggest issues we have experienced within the organization lately is consistent and reliable communication among members. I heard it said today that the mailing lists should still serve as our primary form of communication but we should probably also embrace other forms of communication as well for those times when the mailing list isn't performing correctly...for example, the e-mails sent over the last 8 days didn't show up in my mailbox until 4AM this morning. 

I believe that Ralph is looking into the current mailing list issue but I thought that I would share with everyone some of the sites I have found helpful & social media that we have a presence on:

	* Discuss Mailing List Archive: http://www.ntlug.org/pipermail/discuss/ If you haven't seen any e-mails in a while you might check here to see if messages have been going out and you just aren't getting them.

	* Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/56488589273/?ref=br_tf Not many members yet but I will be reposting any news & info to the page as needed.

There are probably others but hopefully these will be enough to start making getting the word out a little bit easier as we move forward in our decision of where to continue meeting. 

I actually wasn't aware that we had an IRC chatroom and since I use IRC daily for work I will probably start spending time in that room as well.
