Greetings.
I am attempting to attach a Parallel Port printer to an older laptop
(setting it up as a Print Server). I am having issues with the Parallel
port communications on the machine as described in;
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=366165
BUT, this was with kernel 3.2.0-23-generic
Per https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-bugs/2006-May/014471.html
(older kernel version, I know, but was wondering if perhaps the issue
referenced here was never fixed), I tried the following;
- Setting BIOS to EPP for the Parallel Port
- Setting BIOS to BiDirectional for the Parallel Port
While the ' parport0: FIFO is stuck' messages went away;
- Port is still not operational
- dmesg output: 'parport0: PC-style at 0x378, irq7, [PCSPP,TRISTATE,EPP]
Given costs of ink, and what it costs to run this printer compared to a
modern printer, if somebody has a reasonable rate to charge to come fix
this (or I can bring the system and hardware to them), I will be happy
to pay to get this fixed quickly. (NOTE: I would like to see the final
solution posted here, if determined).
Please feel free to contact me off list directly. Or if you know a
solution and wish to post here, that would also be appreciated.
Regards,
Steve
