Xournal used to work quite well for me ... but I stopped using it. I 
just revisited it (on Mageia 4 64bit, KDE4) ...
     it seemed to be doing fine
     I exported to pdf
     I tried to open the new pdf
         with xournal
         with okular
     the result in each case was a bunch of blank pages
Hints or thoughts are of course welcome
