[NTLUG:Discuss] Looking for DIY network appliance advice

I want to build a low cost, fanless, low power network security device
to protect my home network. I'm looking for advice / recommendations as
to both hardware and software. I've been using a box I bought from Logic
Supply a few years back that runs Untangle. It runs fairly hot, and
gobbles 35 watts. Also, it was pretty pricey. All of my computers run
linux, but I do have to run windows on one machine, so malware screening
is a must.

Thoughts?
