[NTLUG:Discuss] Network hardware for Ubuntu

Right now we are running Ubuntu LTS on an Axiomtek NA-330 (which is discontinued and one unit is showing signs of failure). Their replacement product and two others from different vendors (providing 8 ports) all sell for $895 which strikes me as really odd. Since sending this I have discovered that SuperMicro now has motherboards with 4 integrated NICs, install a 4-port add-in board for 8 ports for $710. Still seems high at just under $89/port but I'll take the $185 differential.

Leroy,
I think it is understandable that the open networking hardware is
more useful to big companies and datacenters first. I am glad to see
someone local experimenting with it. I also think it will come to
more reasonablee hardware in time. What OS are you planning to use?
ONL, maybe?
Ralph
