- Uses Path MTU (Maximum Time Unit) tricks to discover the route. Sending a large enough packet with a “do not fragment” bit set, will result in a return packet describing an appropriate handling size ane the next route.
Does NOT require root privileges

No raw socket, therefore no real need for root.
