[NTLUG:Announce] Nominations for NTLUG Board at February 2/16 Meeting, Election March 3/15

Low-traffic NTLUG announcement list announce at ntlug.org

This is to announce nominations for the NTLUG Board for the February meeting.

As I see it, all 7 positions are open. We will be electing 2 for a 1 yr.
term, 2 for a 2 yr. term and 3 for a 3 yr. term. We'll make March our
official year start for board positions (I figure we won't be diligent enough
to shoot for January or end of year).

So... nominations are hereby opened by decree. We'll take them down
officially at the February meeting. Nominations need to come from the
floor at the meeting at 11am 2/16. If you are not going to make the meeting, you
need to find someone that is going to attend to make the nomination
on your behalf.

Election of the new board will happen at the March 15, 2008 meeting
at 11am. Proxy voting is allowed by current bylaws and must be
done in writing, signed and dated for the date of execution of the
proxy. I'd prefer that everyone NOT do the proxy thing since
the validation of those proxies is subjective.

Board terms are for 3 years normally with 7 members and designed to bring 2
(or 3) board positions up for election every year. The board is
SUPPOSED to meet at least once a year to take care of business, at
least the business of seeing that the board positions are filled :)
IMHO, the board probably should meet at least twice a year.

The "old" board was:

Don Van Slyke
J. Jentink
Chris Cox
Dennis Rice
Rick Cook
Mark Bickel
Travis Farral

Travis is no longer in the area and has declined nomination. However the
rest of these may be choices for nominations. But I do encourage you
to consider running. Why?...

The Board of NTLUG basically steers the group by assigning the officer
positions to members of the group (officers are NOT elected at NTLUG).
So if you want to make some changes at NTLUG, your best bet is to
become part of the board. NTLUG officers do not necessarily have
to be members of the board.

Now.. I'll just be honest, your existing board hasn't been the best
board (self included). Thus the reason why we're having to fill so
many positions on the board.

Just to let you know also, there are some pretty big decisions
facing NTLUG, not just location, but organizationally with regards
to incorporation (or not) and a review/change of our Bylaws, and the
Linux Fair for 2008... etc. So there are some pretty big decisions
that will have to made and probably will happen this year.

Your (apparently eternal) President,
Darth Chris
(and acting Emperor of the Federation in lieu of an active board)
