Layer 2 “ping”
arping [ -s <source-ip> ] <ip-address>
- Sends an ARP “who has” this IP command as a broadcast message.

Notes:
Instead of verifying another host on the local LAN with ping, you can use the utility arping (where
available) to send a Layer 1 (ARP packet) to another MAC on the LAN to see if it is there or not. The actual message sent is a “who has” message for a particular IP.
