Well said, Greg! This is exactly my position.

One of the points of doing it this way is to build up the mail
archives into something that is worth pointing newbies at (or at least 
to selections from it). I feel like, mainly through my sloth, we've
lost a lot of good stuff by not having archived this mail list from
the beginning.

By keeping as much good discussion on list as possible, maybe we can
start making up for that.
