Random ideas:
[1] use the tcpdump utility to view the packets and see if you
are getting correct addresses and/or any ICMP messages.
[2] check the routing on the server side, to insure that any
packets that reach it can get back to the client. If you are just
tweaking the client, the packets may very well be getting to
the server and -then- getting lost.
You can check for this by running 'netstat' and recording
counts of packets received, dropped, etc. before and after
a test. Then do the same on the client side, and you will
have a rough picture of where things are being dropped.
[3] check the blinking lights on the cards during your tests
and see if one or the other cards are NOT blinking.
