Have you tried the crossover cable? Can you ping the box from a known good
Linux box (one of the ones you've already installed perhaps)?
Perhaps you could try setting the machines on the 192.168.0.x, nm 255.255.255.0
range (which is classified as a private address range, so you won't step on
anyone else's IP's). That would avoid any possibility of conflict with the
district's IP assignments. It would also make routing extremely simple. You
could change them back to DHCP once the install was complete. I suspect routing
problems.
I'm still puzzled that this same setup worked last week.
