[NTLUG:Discuss] Cable Modem & NIC

The cable modem guys are gone now and i have some questions.  the
install guy was a newbie (no one could fake that kind of ignorance)
and didn't say anything when i told him "i rarely use windows - i'm in
a unix environment mostly and need a permanent IP address."  so
consequently it didn't happen.  feh.  am i forever limited to dhcp or
can anyone suggest how to get a perm IP address assigned after
installation?  now to the fun stuff. . .

this nic card they put in... windoze proclaims it to be a "Realtek
RTL8019 PnP LAN Adaptor".  ummm, there isn't an option for that in
menuconfig.  any suggestions?  a module for a compatible card?  throw
it away and get a real nic?

*and*, as an added bonus, i've never messed with PnP stuff, so where
would you send me to RTFM or can i get some quick pointers to set up
the PnP parameters if i can create a module for it?  thanks,
