[NTLUG:Discuss] terminal error

I recently upgraded to the 2.2.11 kernel and I now get the following
message when trying to run commands such as 'clear', 'less', and 'reset'
from a ssh session.

    'vt100': unknown terminal type

when in X the same thing happens with:

    'xterm': unknown terminal type

any ideas before we bail out, and try 2.2.10.
