It is a per seat purchase.
There is no difference between the student version and the full version.
Just the price.
Some dos applications don't work 100% in NT under vmware, there are some
gotchas, usually minor in nature. These gotchas stopped me due to the
work I do.
the video does not always work right under linux. Under NT vmware, it is
almost always right. I ended up using NT vmware instead of linux vmware
because the new AGP motherboard (SiS) drivers just don't work with vmware.
You need the biggest, fastest machine to get good performance. unless
you really want to run both at the same time, dual boot.
