I've installed SuSE 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 on my 200MHz AMD K6-2 without problems,
so I don't think it's anything inherent in the CPU.

I reported a while ago the fact that some K6-2's have an intermittant
problem with the GNU C/C++ compilers - that can prevent the kernel from
recompiling (or prevent any large program from installing if it needs
to be compiled) but that doesn't explain your problem.

If you are also having problems with Windoze installs then it's got to
be a basic hardware fault. I'm guessing flakey memory - but it could
be almost anything else.

Try unplugging as many peripherals and cards as you can to eliminate
any possible device contentions - if possible, try using a different
set of memory modules. Is your machine overheating perhaps? If
you are over-clocking anything - don't!

Check to see if any socketted chips, modules or boards have become
unseated - just gently press on each on to see if it clicks back
into place.
