I'll second that motion.  My login message says:

MS DOS Version 6.22
on a 286 6.5 mhz
login: 


Just make sure you make the changes to /etc/rc.d/rc.local
(on Redhat distro's anyway) since /etc/issue & /etc/issue.net
get overwritten at startup time.
