[NTLUG:Discuss] ADSL Configuration Questions

Thanks for the info Richard!

GTE is definitely slower than advertised. I'm handling the line
installation directly through GTE, so DirectLink is not slowing the process
down. When I first placed the order with GTE on 1/27 they quoted two weeks
for me to be up and running. Then on 2/9 they gave me the official 3/9
date. So it looks like it will take six weeks, but it will be worth it if
all works as advertised.

After thinking about it for a while, I think I will use a dedicated
interface for the modem. It seems simpler, I have an available slot, and I
like the idea of the gateway being isolated and easily cut off from the rest
of the network. I know, I can just unplug the phone line from the wall for
a quick cutoff. But with the dedicated interface, I can cut it off remotely
using a separate dial-in analog modem connection by just disabling the
inteface. Not likely to be necessary, but comforting to know that it can be
done.

Thanks,

Dan Carlson
