I can only recommend what I've used, but I have had some success burning
CDs with Linux (actually better luck than with that other O$...).

My CD burner/rewriter is a RICOH MP7040S (box brand was CenDyne). This
is a 4x write, 4x rewrite, and 20x read SCSI2 CDRW drive. As I
indicated, this is a SCSI drive, so you'll need a SCSI adapter if you
use this particular drive. Many IDE CD recorders are supported, but
there may be some extra steps to configure them properly (eg. IDE-SCSI
emulation).

More info can be found in the CD-Writing-HOWTO at:
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/CD-Writing-HOWTO.html

Also, check the CDRECORD homepage at:
http://www.fokus.gmd.de/research/cc/glone/employees/joerg.schilling/private/cdrecord.html
(yeesh!)

If you want a GUI program for burning CD's (as opposed to a command
line), there is a program called X-CD-Roast. I have yet to get it to
record audio cd's properly (maybe a config problem), all I get is
noise. I downloaded a binary that works, but I would like to recompile
it from source, however it's one of those programs that requires yet
another tool kit (TCL/TK addon).

One other thing, I recommend you start out with ReWritable CD's until
you get the process down, that way you won't get stuck with a bunch of
coasters.

I might be able to answer any other questions you may have, but most of
them should be answered in the locations mentioned above.

Stephen
