first of all, check out the CD-Writing-HOWTO -- it will probably answer
most of your questions.  here is a quote from it:

  4.7.  Is it possible to make a 1:1 copy of a data CD?

  Yes. But you should be aware of the fact that any errors
  while reading the original (due to dust or scratches) will
  result in a defective copy.  Please note that both methods
  will fail on audio CDs! You have to use cdrdao or cdda2wav
  on audio CDs.

it goes on to describe a couple scenarios, but i'll let you go find it
instead of bogging down the list.  good luck with the scsi emulation as
well.
