I just finished hooking a friends PC to DSL, so I may be of help
to you.  He is on RH 5.2, but I doubt there will be many differences.

A few questions:

1) Is your box a stand-a-lone computer, or is it firewalling other PC's?
2) Do you have the Kernel configured to recognize the NIC that is
connected to the DSL converter?
3) Do you have the name servers from your DSL provider?
4) Do you have a network number and netmask from your DSL provider?
5) Is your provider using static IP's or DHCP?
6) Who is your DSL provider?
