Hi, all --
I noticed this in newspaper ads today and thought I'd mention it. I
realize Corel WordPerfect is not open-source or free (speech) software.
CompUSA is selling deluxe version (including the Tux figurine) Corel
Linux OS 1.0 (I think that's the version; If so, it was their first,
original version) with a net price of -0-, after CompUSA and Corel
rebates. Also, they're selling Corel WordPerf 2000 for Linux, net after
rebates, for $100 or less. The net $100 is for the "deluxe" version,
which includes their full office suite and the Paradox database program,
and their latest version of their Corel Linux OS also (cf. Micro$oft
Access in "premium" versions of that Office program; retail prices up in
the several hundreds $$ ?). And not to forget, for Linux, Star Office,
ApplixWare, AbiWord, KOffice, Gnome's apps -- All either free of charge,
or at modest prices.
I've also been pleased to see Fry's has been selling their
finish-it-yourself PCs, lowest is about $100 net after a CompuServe
rebate, complete with a GNU/Linux OS (they don't say which distro).
Which again makes me think: I don't see how a new/ small business, esp.
one just starting out, can avoid considering GNU/Linux for the desktop.
Best to all.
