So far, the Voodoo3 is winning.
I replaced my video card with a 2D/3D PCI version of the Voodoo3 2000. I
went to linux.3dfx.com and downloaded the source rpm for XF86 (their
recommendation), built and installed it, and used their version of
XF86Setup.
Here's where it gets interesting; their website says to use the 3dfx X
server, but the version of XF86Setup I downloaded from them doesn't list
such a server. The SVGA server lists Voodoo3 as a chipset, but when I
selected this chipset and created XF86Config, my results were tragic.
"startx" gives me a screen full of pretty blue and pink bars which don't go
away after hitting ctrl-alt-backspace. I am returned to console mode, and I
can type and enter commands, but all I see is the pretty blue and pink bars.
I realize that setting up the 3D features of this video card might be rough,
but for now I'm still struggling with the 2D server.
Any suggestions?
