Well, I have a V3-2000 on my son's PC. I installed it from the SuSE distro
and just picked all the Banshee/Voodoo-3 options and it went without a hitch.

Some things you need to know perhaps:

1) The hardware can only accellerate 3D graphics in 16 bit-per-pixel modes,
so even though it can do 24/32 bit video - stick with 16 if you plan on
   doing any 3D.

2) Some of the instructions were written before the Voodoo-3 came out and
talk about the 'Banshee' instead. Don't sweat it - V3 and Banshee are
   essentially identical.

3) You need GLIDE 3.xx for V3/Banshee.

4) Depending on which board you got, you may have to be a little careful
with your display resolution in order to retain enough spare video
memory for double-buffering, Z-buffers and Texture memory - so don't
push up the video resolution "just because you can", it can be
   counter-productive.

5) The version that came with SuSE 6.3 had an annoying bug - the cursor
shape would sometimes get 'stuck' at some particular shape - and
even shutting down X and restarting it wouldn't 'unstick' it. I
havn't seen that with the SuSE 6.4 version.

The version of Xfree I ended up with is called XF86_SVGA. For some
arcane reason, SuSE's setup stuff made a symlink from XFCom_Banshee
to XF86_SVGA in /usr/X11R6/bin - dunno if that's relevent.
