ok
here is a new one..............
running /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl gives me the error:

Making sure VMware's services are stopped.

Stopping VMware services:
Virtual machine monitor [ OK ]
   Bridged networking [ OK ]
   Host-only networking [FAILED]
   Virtual ethernet [FAILED]
Unable to stop VMware's services.

Execution aborted.

Of course, it makes complete sense that since it could not start them in
the earlier attempt, stopping them would be equally impossible..;->

....next idea??

thanks again
