That sounds like it should have been helpful; do a "ps aex | grep nfsd"
to see if it's really alive.

Hmmm...  Suspiciously familiar...

Is it possible that your /etc/hosts.deny and /etc/hosts.allow are mis-set?

If you want to do this sort of thing, look at WebMin instead; it looks
to be the replacement for COAS.  Apparently the ambitious ideas for COAS
were a bit too ambitious, and they are having to do the "throw the first
attempt away" thing.

Webmin _actually is_ modular, unlike the other schemes, and there
are a remarkable number of modules available.
