While I appreciate your attempt at levity (?), as a father of a
manic-depressive child, I will take exception with your crude attempt at
humor. This is not the forum for crude and incensitive digs at those with
a manic-depresive order. While it may have been made in jest, I do not
believe that it is aproprite or welcomed here by this group, or NTLUG
itself. Too often, comments are tolerated, because they are made at the
expense of those afflicted, and targeted at those that many consider less
than deserving of respect. If in fact, it was made in the spirit of humor,
then I believe you should offer an apology to the group, for any of the
others that may have found your comment offensive.
To briefly clarify a few points. Those that endure manic depressive
disorder, are far more likely to possess exceptional intelligence and
extremely high IQ's. My son's IQ has been tested, at different times in
his life, in the range of 190 to 200+. He graduated high school at 13,
proceeded to Duke University where he studied astral physics, and is now
in his 2nd year of graduate studies at another university. All of this
accompished at the ripe old age of 20.
Manic depresives do not often suffer from fits of dillusion, paranoia,
or other much more severe maladies, which affect so many more of those
with mental diseases and defects. They are usually not the ones going
through our highschools with AK-47s.
There are at least 20 million Americans living with some degree of
bi-polar disorder, many of whom haven't recived treatment because of
misdiagnosis, or they have not sought help at all.
This forum should not allow for, nor tolerate, derogatory comments
about someones ethnicity, religious or political affiliations, or any
other insulting and denegrating remarks. (Bill Gates being the absolute
exception)
I do not mean to preach, but to simply point out, that far too often,
there are comments sometimes made, that shouldn't be tolerated or ignored.
While no offense may have been intended, it is still offensive.
To those in charge of this mailing list....If I am the one out of
line, please let me know. If these sorts of comments are welcomed here,
then please let me know that too. If not, you might want to clarify the
point. But I personally dont believe that this is the place for such
comments.

    Thank you,
    Kevin
