The problem with make install is that if your new kernel is broken,
you just lilo'd a broken system. You may not even be able to reboot,
and build another kernel unless you have a boot floppy.
You should probably edit your lilo.conf, and put a new entry for
your 2.4 kernel and DON"T make that the default boot. You should
leave your old kernel as the default image until you verify that
the new kernel is actually good.
> make dep ; make clean

> make modules
> make modules_install
* modify your lilo.conf appropriately
> make install
