[NTLUG:Discuss] APC Powerchute Install Fails

I've downloaded APC's Powerchute for Linux software.  I've been trying, in 
vain, to install it on a RedHat 6.0 system.  I'm using it with a Back UPS 
500 backup system.  The install complains the  serial port is configured 
for local control.  However, although I can change it (turn clocal off 
using stty) once I run the installer, it complains about local control and 
if I check, clocal has been reasserted.  Has anyone successfully installed 
Powerchute on Linux?  If so, I would sincerely appreciate any advice.
