I comment out the lines describing services that i don't need running in
/etc/inetd.conf
#ftp     stream  tcp     nowait  root    /usr/sbin/tcpd  in.ftpd -l -a
#telnet  stream  tcp     nowait  root    /usr/sbin/tcpd  in.telnetd
