[NTLUG:Discuss] ftp file transfers hang in my internal network

there was a bug like that, but it didn't affect all ftp servers. I had a
similar problem once when ftp'ing "shorten" files. Particular files would hang
at a particular spot - I interpreted that as incorrectly reading an EOF or EOT
marker (these were binary compressed transfers - that shouldn't have been
happening, but it would cause the ftp servers to hang or core dump). I could
transfer the same files without a problem using any other protocol, like http or
rcp, which is what I suggest you try next. Another cause might be packet size
related - try a different router or hub or packet size.
Here's what status on my ftp server says:
No proxy connection.
Mode: stream; Type: binary; Form: non-print; Structure: file
Verbose: on; Bell: off; Prompting: on; Globbing: on
Store unique: off; Receive unique: off
Case: off; CR stripping: on
Ntrans: off
Nmap: off
Hash mark printing: off; Use of PORT cmds: on
Tick counter printing: off

...But ftp between 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.10 doesn't work. I can
connect to the ftp server, login, do ls, and start get/put, and then
the data transfer hangs after 2K or 4K bytes has been transfered.
