One of the benefits of a hosting service is that they often have things
like "canned" software routines for getting sites up quickly, monitoring
and reporting software to determine your traffic, and even sometimes
availability of credit card acceptance on an expedited and cheap basis.
Later, as your service grows, you can consider co-location of your own
machine. With the low-profile rack mount systems out there, rack space can
be pretty cheap.
