[NTLUG:Discuss] Re: Strange Request, Maybe?

I'll field that one:

The answer, I suspect, lies in the fat that Ext3fs is being worked on by one
of the RedHat people. If you check the status of development that Ext3fs is
at, however, you will find that it's like 0.03 or something like that. It's
so far from being workable it's not even worth mentioning its existance.
But politically, you can see where they might not want to include ReiserFS
support in the installation... HOWEVER!

I will draw your attention to http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/ to see
what they have to offer in the way of patches and updates. I discovered
those guys a short while before RedHat 7.1 was released. The stuff they did
for RedHat 7.0 was terrific. I have exchanged a few emails with them and
they are low on time and resources, but I am hopeful that they will address
the need to perform this upgrade to the RedHat 7.1 CD to enable ReiserFS as
a omplete installation option. (As it stands, you an enable ReiserFS at
install time on all partitions except "/boot" and "/" for various
reasons...could go into it but it's just babbling anyway.)

These are smart people. I hope they continue to share their efforts with
others. Write'm an email to express you appreciation for what they are
doing. :) Maybe they will work harder to become famous in the Linux
community. :)
