[NTLUG:Discuss] argh! music on RH 7.0 Gnome

Howdy, all.

Might anyone be able to suggest guidance on this one? I'm running RH 7.0
and when I fire up GNOME, I get all the system sounds, and i know my sound
card is up and running and working, etc.

But I can't play any audio CDs! According to things like the built in CD
Player, or XMMS, the CD is running. But there's no sound?? But I'm still
getting systems sounds from when I open and close windows and stuff.

And while on that topic, if I can't figure that out, how can I play audio
CD's via command line (bash)?
