[NTLUG:Discuss] Video install issue on Dell Latitude C800 with Red Hat 7.1 distro...

I want to pass on my experience in case there is any interest in the
issue.

Machine: Dell Latitude C800, Pentium III 850, 256 SDRAM, ATI Rage 128
Video with 16 MB RAM
Distro: Red Hat 7.1
Installation recognizes the video card and monitor, and the "test"
button produces a successful image.

There are 3 options available for color (bits/pix) - 8, 16, and 24 bit.
There are 3 options available for video resolution - 800x600, 1024x768,
and 1400x1050.
16 bit was the default value for color, and 1024x768 is the default
value for resolution.
No matter which combination of these options I selected the test always
displayed as 16 bit color, and 1400x1050 resolution.
If I did not specifically set the selections to 16 bit color and
1400x1050 resolution before pressing "Next" the graphic display would
not work after reboot.
Selecting 16 bit color and 1400x1050 resolution before pressing "Next"
resulted in successful graphic display would after reboot.

Additional notes:
(1) The Dell supplied Windows 2000 would not install in VMware
Workstation 2.0.4 - but that should not come as a surprise because
VMware warns that such laptop distributions often will not install in
VMware.
(2) PartitionMagic currently will not shrink Windows 2000.

Hope someone finds this helpful.
