[NTLUG:Discuss] is mdk 8.0 fixable???

I have been using mdk8.0 since it was released as an iso
I know of others in my area that have great dificulty with their 8.0 
can the gcc be up/downgraded to an acceptible version???

this is not a good thing:)
I now spend my time waiting for something to f*&% up 
knowing that it will (due to the incompatibilities)
this is a sitiation I am completely unfamiliar with on a linux box
