I'm not sure what's up with this, but I tried another NIC and it too
failed. Both NIC's were 3COM 3C905B-TXNM cards. So I tried a 3rd
card (same type) and it worked OK (it had a lot of collisions though).
I checked the card configurations and the ones that didn't work were
set to full duplex. The one that did work was set to half duplex, so
I changed on the the "bad" cards to half duplex and it worked OK (but
again with collisions). The server is connected directly to a
CISCO 2900 Series switch which does support full duplex. Does anyone
know if there are any know driver problems with the 3COM NIC in full
duplex mode?
