I didn't take offense, and I was glad to hear a more informed legal
opinion than mine - folks who know me know that I am very willing to be
corrected.
As before: my analogy wasn't good, and I apologies for not thinking it
out more carefully.
Also I don't really care what OS anyone uses - that's not my issue - my
soapbox was to say that I feel very strongly that if one doesn't like a
product, don't buy it - saying that with the full knowledge of the
difficulty, pain, and sometimes impossibility, of keeping such a stance,
and the caution that rigidity is not a virtue. I still run Windows 95
on an a couple of old boxes for stuff that I still have to run -
example: checking WEB pages on different browsers to be sure folks will
be able to see something usable, and half decent.
Years ago they "busted up" Standard Oil, and more recently AT&T, at
great expense and effort, and maybe they actually did some good - I am
sure I couldn't judge - but I still see Standard Oil and AT&T, in all
their parts, and we are all still basically in their hands, because we
all still think we need them. Do you see my point, or am I just making
mud?
My own thought on Microsoft is that their time may have come and gone,
and if that is so, their death throws could get ugly - better not to
stand too close.
Best of luck
