[NTLUG:Discuss] Printer setup?

You will likely receive many responses. Solving the printing problems for
your printer with such an old version of Linux will be a definite learning
experience.

However, I believe Mandrake 8 would be a major step up. Two-CD versions are
floating around for $10 or so--

I just installed this version on a friend's machine. It saw his printer
correctly and automatically installed CUPS (common UNIX printing system)
and Ghostscript and asked if we wanted a test page. When we said yes, it
printed flawlessly--and has been doing so since.

I don't believe you'd have any problem with that distribution--and you
would also have the 2.4 kernel (a big step up from the one on Caldera 2.2
or 2.4) and the later Xwindows (also a big improvement) etc. etc.

I am sure there are folks on the list who can give you in great detail how
to print to your printer from your present distribution if it can be done.
I am also sure you would learn quite a bit in the process. However, when
there is a cheap alternative available that is so much better in so many
ways, I'd rather spend my time learning other things that have a bit more
interest!

Good luck.

David
