Laptops have issues with syncing the lcd properly. 
Try switching between the LCD and CRT output (fn-F5 on
my laptop) and see if that gives you a graphic screen.
If not, try resetting your X setup to ensure that the
install process chose a resolution that the LCD screen
is capable of... some laptops have graphic cards
capable of far higher resolution than the screens they
ship with.

1. ctrl-alt-f2
2. if still see no screen, press fn-F5 a couple times
3. login as root
4. # init 2
5. # XF86Setup
6. # init 3
7. you may still have to do the fn-F5 a couple times
to sync properly
