[NTLUG:Discuss] system hanging when shutting down or logging out

I have installed Redhat 7.1, dual booting along with win2000 professional
editon.

When i login into redhat and shutdown, the monitor switches off and the
system hangs. The only way i can bring the system up again is by switching
off/on the power supply.

I have 1.2 gz  Athlon processor with 320 MB memory. the motherboard is ECS
K7VZA.

I have turned disabled the power management settings in the bios and redhat.

any clue will of immense help
