I'm a total newbie to this, but I did just set up an IMAP system for myself
using exim and Courier-IMAP.

See

for more answers to your question.

As a workaround, I created a SENT folder within the INBOX and then told my mail
client to put its sent mail there instead of its normal place. Microsoft Outlook
has an IMAP tab that you can access after you got to Accounts. In that tab, is a
field for the Sent folder path. So, you might want to try futzing around there.
