Richard,
I was forwarded your e-mail by Michael Patrick, an NTLUG
subscriber. I've sent this directly to you, as I'm not on the NTLUG
list so I don't know if it'll take the CC from a non-subscribed sender.
courier-imap requires that all folders be created beneath the
Inbox folder. What you can do is create your Sent Items folder there
through OE (right-click on Inbox / New Folder..., etc). Then, go to
Tools / Accounts / [account] / Properties / Advanced Set folder root to
Inbox, and let it refresh folders. OE will still read {mail
server}/Inbox from the root, but will read all other folders from
underneath /Inbox and map them (GUI-wise) to appear to be under the
root.
If this makes no sense, a short diagram:
OE layout on Exchange, Mdaemon, etc:
/Inbox
|
- Sent Items
- Trash
OE layout on courier-imap:
/Inbox
|
- /Inbox/Sent Items
- /Inbox/Trash
The IMAP root mapping makes those folders in the 2nd example *appear* to
be like the 1st example.
Hope this helps,
Wes Mills

Subject: [NTLUG:Discuss] QMAIL MAILDIR, COURIER IMAP and OE 'special
folders'
Date: Thu, 4 Oct 2001 10:30:23 -0500
Products in use:
Qmail with MAILDIR format.
Courier IMAP server,
Outlook Express 5.5 or 6
Issue:
There is no "Sent Items" IMAP folder in which OE can put a sent message.
Question:
Has anyone been able to configure CourierImap or Outlook Express to
handle what Outlook Express calls 'special folders'? I would enjoy
having items sent from an IMAP account be automatically stored in a sent
items folder for that account. The old IMAP4rev1 2000.287 server that I
used to use would do this.
Debunk:
Yes, I know it's Outlook and that there are other mail programs out
there. Sometimes you have to take 'what you're given' and make 'what
your given - pie'.
