Qmail 1.03
Any remote SMTP client with blocked port 25
Issue:
After the microSOFT LoveBug virus came out many ISPs such as bigplanet and
mindspring started blocking outbound access to port 25. These ISPs force
you to use THEIR mail servers using the email address provided by THEM.
Presumably they do this to be able to filter and scrub outbound email.
This is great in concept, but it is killing needed functionality. I use to
run SENDMAIL on both ports 25 and 587. This was great because I could use
port 587 as the SMTP port on blocked remote mail clients.
Question:
Where in the QMAIL documentation can I go to figure out how to configure
alternate ports on which QMAIL should listen? I've looked through the
READMEs and through some of the source code (like qmail-smtpd.c) but I can't
seem to find it.
Afterthought:
You know...with all of the current microSOFT viruses out there that are
comming with their own SMTP code, I wonder if it would be wise to just
block all outgoing traffic on port 25 (save for the mail server itself) and
make ALL internal clients use an alternate port on which to submit their
SMTP mail.
