Some ISPs are more anal than others. However, I think that spam was the original
reason (and probably still the main reason) why ISPs started cracking down on
their users putting mail servers on their network (hey, look at the 3000 global
complaints in the abuse inbox!)or accessing SMTP servers not on their network
(hey, look at the 3000 ISP complaints in the abuse inbox!).
