There was some comment on Slashdot (www.slashdot.org) today about someone
having figured out the AOL protocol and having written a very basic access
mechanism to use AOL under Linux.

I lost interest in the article just after reading the intro - so I don't
know exactly what it does or doesn't do.  Sounded like it had a way to go
yet.
