Don't know about directvdsl, but I have been very happy with
speakeasy.net. We're 34,000 feet from the CO and no cable
modem service available, but we qulaifierd for IDSL which
works over ISDN loop. Covad is the DSL carrier, and we had
firstworld.net as our ISP for the first year until they closed
shop in August. after searching around we chose speakeasy.
The swiitch was smooth and we got an even better package
at a lower price!

$60/mo.
144/144 kbps (this is IDSL)
30 hrs./Mo. nationwide dialup (for when we travel)
2 static IPs
2 email accounts w/ 2 aliaises (POP and HTTP mail)
10 Mb Web/storage
Linux shell accounnt w/ ssh!

Speakeasy is very Linux friendly. they have detailed info
on various Linux configs on the suuprt pages. Plus they
no't do port blocking, PPPoE or other dumb/restictive
things. Their TOS allows running local SMTP an HHTP server!

I've been with them 3 mopnths now and no problems so far.
