But you still have to phone them up to ask for a re-registration of your OS - right?
I don't think the basic detection mechanism in the OS has changed.
I think all they are saying is that when you phone Microsoft to explain why you
need a new registration code, they'll be "generous" in accepting your explanation.
I havn't seen anywhere a list of what you can change before XP wigs out on you.
Suppose you upgrade your motherboard, CPU and RAM? Is that enough to invalidate
the OS? What about the hard drive? The NIC?
Who knows?
Personally, when I upgrade my PC (about once a year), I replace nearly everything
with some of the older parts migrating into my kid's PC.
