The howtows documenting dealing with kernel modules are going to be your best 
starting place.  Several things may have happened:

1) Your custom kernel may not be configured just like the out-of-the-box 
kernel.  Even if it is, I can't promise that the module names didn't change.

2) Your error messages are most likely coming from startup or invocation 
scripts.  The magic thing to look for here is "insmod".

Without more specific diagnostic information from you (what the scripts and 
errors look like, etc) it's difficult to be more specific, but that's where 
I'd start looking, especially if you see these errors at boot time.
